HOLODOMOR DOCUMENTS
The National Memory Institute expects that Russia will divulge those documents denying that the Great Famine, Holodomor of 1932-33, was directed against the Ukrainian nation, reads a statement made by the National Memory Institute press service. The press service said that the chairperson of the Russian Archives Vladimir Kozlov has said that Russia possesses documents dated 1932 and 1933 that prove that Holodomor of 1930s was not directed against Ukraine but the Russian Archives cannot expose them as those are classified. The National Memory Institute expressed... |

DYNAMO KYIV-DYNAMO MOSCOW FRIENDLY ABANDONED AMIDST BRAWL
Dynamo Kyiv today took on Dynamo Moscow in an attempt to prepare for next week's return to competitive action against Valencia in the UEFA Cup. The Muscovites, too, needed match practice as they seek to build on last season's 3rd place finish when the Russian Premier League begins anew next month. But today's encounter in Marbella in fact ended just after the hour mark... |

MOSCOW ‘WON’T BE ABLE’ TO BRING UKRAINE BACK INTO ITS SPHERE OF INFLUENCE
Viktor Chernomyrdin, Russia’s ambassador in Kyiv, says that Moscow has little or no chance to bring Ukraine back into its sphere of influence anytime soon, not only because of Ukrainian attitudes toward Russia but also because of the scope of American activities in Ukraine. In remarkably undiplomatic language, Chernomyrdin, who earlier served as Russia’s prime minister, not only acknowledged that his own government is losing influence in the country... |

WHY NURTURE RUSSIA'S ILLUSIONS?
Barack Obama wants to make friends with Russia, "press the reset button" as his Veep proposed the other day. Sounds familiar. Bill Clinton bear hugged Boris Yeltsin and George W. Bush peered into successor Vladimir Putin's soul. Yet relations haven't been this bad since Konstantin Chernenko's days at the Kremlin. So what? America is on a roll in Eurasia. Democracy, open markets and stability spread across the region in the Clinton and Bush eras. From Estonia to Georgia to Macedonia, free people want to join the West... |

WHO DID RUSSIAN GAS SALES BENEFIT?
When Ukraine and Russia ended their clash over natural gas supplies last month, resuming the flow to more than a dozen European countries, the agreement focused a spotlight on a mysterious firm that suddenly was cut out of the deal. Over the four-plus years of its existence, Rosukrenergo — short for Russia-Ukraine Energy — had collected billions of dollars, much of it as the sole intermediary for gas pumped to Ukraine from Russia. The man largely responsible for pushing Rosukrenergo ... |

GAZPROM 'COMMITTED AN ACT OF TECHNOLOGICAL AGGRESSION'
Surely, Vladimir Chizhov, the Russian ambassador to the European Union, was aware of the European Commission's Technical Assistance to the Commonwealth of Independent States programme conclusions, published in 2007, that the Ukrainian GTS was in a satisfactory technical condition? Surely, Mr Chizhov was aware of the official data of the Russian and Ukrainian ministries of emergencies... |

AMERICA'S GERMAN PROBLEM
No sooner had Russia turned off the gas flowing through Ukrainian pipelines in the first days of the new year, sending tens of thousands of Europeans into a deep freeze, than German economy minister Michael Glos pointed out that "if we already had the Nord Stream pipeline," which would bypass Ukraine, flowing from Russia to Germany under the Baltic Sea, "then we in Germany, at least, would be a little more reassured... |

STATUS OF CRIMEA HANGS OVER RUSSIA, UKRAINE
A marble plaque on the wall of the Russian Sailors' Club, one of the city's trademark white granite neoclassical buildings, reads: "TIME CAPSULE: To be opened by service members of the Russian Black Sea Fleet and citizens of the 'hero city' of Sevastopol, 22/2/2021." There is a hitch, however. The Ukrainian government says Russia and its fleet have to be out of Sevastopol by 2017. While the recently resolved Russian-Ukrainian dispute... |
